Harvey hinterland paddocks and homestead

WA 6220 · Shire of Harvey

Harvey is not a suburb of Bunbury. It is its own town.

About an hour and a half from Perth on the South Western Highway, Harvey sits under the Scarp with irrigation country around it. The office is on Hayward Street. We drive these roads every week.

Harvey is the seat of the shire and still a working rural service town: Harvey Fresh, Harvey Beef, Harvey Cheese, the agricultural show, a hospital, an ag college nearby. People move here for a house they can actually pay for, a paddock on the edge of town, or a run into irrigation country without disappearing off the map.

What the property actually is

In town you will see brick and weatherboard family homes, some units, the odd commercial freehold on the main streets. Five minutes out, the lots jump to acres — horses, a few cattle, a shed that is doing more work than the house. Water is the conversation. Irrigation shares, scheme water, a bore, a dam that looks photogenic and a winter that tests the driveway. If an agent from the city talks only about the kitchen, they have not walked the place.

Who Harvey suits

Families who want Harvey Senior High School in reach. Downsizers who still want a garden. Owners who need a manager who will inspect a horse property as a horse property. It is not Australind and it is not Margaret River. The pace is slower; the supermarket still exists.

Getting about

Most households run two cars. The Australind train is more use at Cookernup and Harvey’s own station than people from Perth expect. Bunbury is the bigger shop; Mandurah is the other direction. Stirling Cottage, Harvey Dam and the hills are why visitors stop. They are also why some buyers stay.

Median house prices quoted on portals bounce. REIWA’s Harvey house median was in the mid-$600,000s for the year to June 2026, with a wide spread between a modest town house and a made-up lifestyle block. Ask us for solds we have actually seen, not a heatmap.

Questions people actually ask

Is Harvey a good place for horses?

On the fringe and in the irrigation district, yes — if the fencing, water and stocking rate are honest. In the townsite, check the shire and the neighbours before you assume a horse is welcome. That is a conversation we have on the first inspection.

How far is Harvey from Perth?

About 140 kilometres south, typically around 90 minutes depending on the Forrest Highway versus South Western Highway. Bunbury is much closer.

Who should I call to sell a Harvey house or acreage?
